The Official TBPN 'Demo Day' Survival Kit

Everything you need to survive YC Demo Day and beyond, curated by the TBPN team.

The Official TBPN "Demo Day" Survival Kit

Demo Day is the Super Bowl of startups. Twice a year, Y Combinator's latest batch of companies takes the stage and pitches to a room full of investors who collectively manage hundreds of billions of dollars. The energy is electric. The stakes are real. And the preparation is everything. Whether you are presenting, watching, or networking in the hallways, you need the right gear to survive the marathon.

The Technology Brothers Podcast Network has covered Demo Day extensively on the daily show, streaming live from 11 AM to 2 PM PT on YouTube and X. John Coogan and Jordi Hays have dissected pitches, interviewed founders backstage, and shared the lessons that separate the memorable from the forgettable. Now we are packaging that knowledge—along with the essential gear—into the TBPN Demo Day Survival Kit.

What Is in the Kit

The "LFG" Water Bottle

The centerpiece of the kit is the TBPN "LFG" Water Bottle. It is a 24-oz, double-wall insulated bottle with our "LFG" (Let's Go) graphic laser-etched into the stainless steel. Demo Day is a dehydration trap—nerves, crowded rooms, nonstop talking. This bottle keeps water ice-cold for 12 hours and serves as a conversation piece. Everyone asks about the "LFG."

The Battery Bank

Your phone will die at Demo Day. That is not a prediction; it is a physical certainty. Between recording pitches, live-tweeting, exchanging contact info via AirDrop, and doom-scrolling the live chat during the show, your battery will not survive past lunch. The TBPN-branded battery bank in the kit has a 10,000 mAh capacity—enough for two full charges of an iPhone—and features both USB-C and Lightning ports.

The "Pivot" Sticker Pack

Every Demo Day produces at least one company that will pivot within six months. The TBPN "Pivot" Sticker Pack is our tongue-in-cheek tribute to this inevitability. It includes ten die-cut stickers with phrases like "Pivot in Progress," "Version 2.0 Loading," "Pre-Revenue, Post-Vision," and the classic TBPN crest. They are perfect for laptops, water bottles, notebooks, or the hotel room door of a founder who just realized their TAM was wrong.

The Tote Bag

Demo Day generates paper. Pitch decks, business cards, term sheets (if you are lucky), and random swag from sponsors. The TBPN Canvas Tote is a heavyweight, reinforced canvas bag with the TBPN wordmark screen-printed in black. It is large enough to carry a laptop, the rest of the survival kit, and whatever you accumulate throughout the day.

Survival Strategy: Before the Pitches

Demo Day starts before you enter the room. Here is the TBPN-recommended pre-game:

  • 7:00 AM — Wake up early. Hydrate. Fill your "LFG" bottle.
  • 8:00 AM — Review the batch list. Mark the 10 companies you are most excited about.
  • 9:00 AM — Charge your phone AND your battery bank to 100%.
  • 9:30 AM — Get dressed. The TBPN recommendation: a TBPN tee under a clean jacket, or our tech hoodie if you want to signal "builder, not banker."
  • 10:00 AM — Arrive early. Claim your seat. Arrange your desk: notebook, pen, phone, water bottle.

Survival Strategy: During the Pitches

The pitches are 2 minutes each. Blink and you miss a unicorn. Here is how to stay sharp:

  • Take analog notes. Do not type. The keyboard sounds will annoy everyone around you. Use a notebook and pen.
  • Hydrate between batches. Take a sip from the "LFG" bottle every 15 minutes.
  • Save your battery. Put your phone in airplane mode during pitches. Record your thoughts in a voice memo during breaks.
  • Wear your TBPN gear. It sounds superficial, but the TBPN cap or a visible sticker on your laptop will attract other TBPN listeners, creating instant networking opportunities.

Survival Strategy: After the Pitches

The real work of Demo Day happens in the lobby, the hallways, and the after-parties. This is where relationships start, term sheets get verbal agreements, and future episodes of the TBPN show get their origin stories.

Keep your TBPN tote stocked with business cards, your fully charged battery bank, and a few extra stickers to hand out. The stickers are the best icebreaker in your arsenal. "Want a sticker?" is the lowest-friction way to start a conversation with a stranger.

Get Your Kit

The TBPN Demo Day Survival Kit is available now at the TBPN Store. We are releasing it right before the next Demo Day, so supplies are limited. Whether you are a founder pitching, an investor scouting, or a builder who just wants to be in the room where it happens, this kit has everything you need to make the most of the day. LFG.
